    1. That wouldn’t surprise me, and I’ve also seen various commenters assert that Brexit will take Britain back to the 1550s in terms of lack of influence. This particular quote, though, is about Cummings fantasy of subsidising cool new industries.

      Picking winners was last tried in the 1970s. It didn’t work then, plenty of economists can explain why it won’t work now. The only reason that Cummings thinks he can make it work is that he’s so stupid that he doesn’t realise how stupid he is.
