It was somewhere between seven and ten years ago that we actually tried to grow anything other than grass and one of the first things we tried was strawberries. They’re still going strong, still covering an increasing amount of the ground alongside the house, still producing fruit and still very tasty indeed.
I have to admit that it was the boys that realised that the strawberries were ripening this weekend, while they were weeding the berry patch.
I could get used to this lazy gardening lark.
I can’t even grow grass effectively

The grass on our lawn is incredible. It gets such a battering from all three of the kids and yet it still survives. There must be something in the water.

I’m guessing not many of those strawberries make it further than the boys’ mouths!

You would be guessing correctly. It can become a bit of a battle sometimes 😉

It’s a constant fight with the birds to get any garden strawberries.

The berries are all between us and the neighbours’ house. There is probably too much movement (cars, people, pets) there for any birds to come near them.
